About Elsie
ELSIE serves the Executive Director of the Haitian Americans United for Progress, Inc. (HAUP), a community-based organization dedicated to empowering and serving the community through education, training, culture sensitive programs and events, and other support services and programs since 1975.
Under her leadership, HAUP has carried out a multi-million dollar capital campaign which has gained significant support from New York State and city governments. The New York Times has featured her writings on the appropriate responses to the devastating earthquake that shook Haiti in January 2010. HAUP has received numerous awards and commendations for its dedication to service for the benefit of the poor in the Greater Cambria Heights community.
She is a member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Board member of the New York Immigration Coalition, serves on a the President Council of York College, member of the Congressionary Immigration Taskforce, Manchester Who’s Who, The National Association of Female Executives, and serves on boards and committees of numerous other organizations. She is a 2010 Haitian-Jewish Leadership Fellow. In November 2013, Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio appointed Ms. Saint Louis to his Transition Team of 60 prominent backers to help select the city’s next mayoral administration.
